Track and field

The Vineyarders competed Saturday at the freshman and sophomore meet at Notre Dame High School in Hingham.

Anders Nelson took second place in the javelin with a throw of 133′. Julia Neville leaped 13′ 4.5′ to place 13th in the long jump, while Nicole Pearson was 13th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:30.24.

The Vineyarders, both girls and boys, host Bishop Stang in an Eastern Athletic Conference meet on Wednesday, April 24 at 3 pm.

Girls tennis

Martha’s Vineyard 4, Coyle Cassidy 1

The Vineyarders improved to 3-1 with an Eastern Athletic Conference win over the host Warriors on April 11.

Boys tennis

The Vineyarders (4-0) beat Coyle Cassidy of Taunton, 5-0, in an EAC match on April 10. Natty Schneider bested Dave Capella at first singles 6-2, 6-1; Kent Leonard was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Matt Vaz at second singles; Justice Yennie clinched the match by blanking Andrew Schlagetar, 6-0, 6-0, at third singles.

Coach Ned Fennessy put in some new faces to play doubles and the Vineyarders didn’t miss a beat. Connor Downing and Sterling Meacham beat Steve Ivan and Steve Grant, 6-0, 6-1, at first doubles. In second doubles, Dunavan Belisle and Charlie Parkhurst won in straight sets over Dan Ritossi and Evan Miles, 6-3, 6-2.
