Things are looking up for the Vineyard boys varsity lacrosse team. After an 0-12 start, the Vineyarders have reeled off three straight wins, the latest a 19-7 victory over the archrival Nantucket Whalers Sunday at Dan McCarthy Field in Oak Bluffs.

Nick Costello led the way for the resurgent Vineyarders, scoring five goals to go with three assists. Thomas Wilkins added four scores, with one assist; Tyler Paulson had three goals and an assist; Taymon Brown, two goals and two assists; Marc Natichioni, one goal and two assists; Sam Burke, one goal and an assist; and Cooper Chapman scored once.

The win came at a cost, however. Huck Burke, one of the team’s leading scorers, who had two goals in the game, was lost for the season with a broken collarbone.

The Vineyarders have a big Eastern Athletic Conference game Tuesday in Attleboro against Bishop Feehan. The Purple are 2-2 in EAC and still have an outside chance to make the playoffs. The Vineyarders must beat the Shamrocks and hope that Bishop Stang does the same to create a three-way tie in the standings.
