Aquinnah

The season is starting: the Taylors had their annual block party this weekend, and it was so much fun. I’ve said it before but it bears repeating that the Taylor/MacPhail/Hoye clan are really good at the party throwing thing. I think they could do it as a business. I can’t really say anything more about the party, except that it was a great time.

Just in time for Mother’s Day, the Aquinnah Shop will open for breakfast and lunch on May 10. Also on May 10 the Chilmark Store will open. The Outermost Inn will be opening on May 17.

This Saturday, May 11, from 10 am to 1 pm, the Aquinnah Library will host a drop-in Mother’s Day “make a gift for mom” craft day. Kids can make a picture frame, and if they bring in a funny (or cool) hat, the librarians will take a picture of them that they can put in their frame to take home. Then at 1 pm they will host a tea party just for moms, (dads take note, you will be on kid duty).

Juli’s Orange Peel Bakery has started pizza up again. For now it is Saturdays from 12 noon to 2 pm that will switch back to Wednesday nights later on in the season.

Island Autism Group will be hosting a Future Financial Planning Seminar for families with children with special needs. It will be held on Saturday, May 11, at the Edgartown School Library, 1–3 pm. This seminar was originally scheduled in March but was cancelled. A New York Life financial advisor and to colleagues, including Attorney Fred Misilo (who helped produce the PBS documentary Autism: Coming of Age), will lead the seminar.

Tuesday, May 14, is the town meeting. Come at 6:45 for the “special” town meeting and then the regular one will follow at 7 pm. On the agenda is the request to grant access to land behind the town hall for more parking and a new and improved playground.

The next blood pressure and wellness clinic will be held May 16, 2–3 pm, in Aquinnah at the Town Hall. Free and open to all residents of Aquinnah. If you have questions, contact Mary E. McLaughlin, RN, Town Nurse at 781-534-2543.

Ella Mahoney got into the honors program at School of Visual Arts in New York City, and that is where she will be going to college this fall. Congratulations, Ella!

Congratulations to Alyssa and Eddie Stahl who had a baby girl last Sunday, April 28. Lucille Hazel Stahl was born at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and weighed in at 7 pounds, 2 ounces. Love to all of them, so happy to have another baby in Aquinnah.
