Tisbury police officer Jeff Day said that police had received reports Wednesday from two senior citizens about a telemarketing company that appears to be targeting elderly Martha's Vineyard residents.
Officer Day said that in each case, the caller from a Mississippi based company, Senior Medical Alert, attempted to convince the residents to sign up for medical equipment.
A call The Times placed to the telephone number provided by police elicited a sales pitch for a medical alert device. The operator said the cost would be paid by the local hospital and the only charge would be for monitoring.
"They're definitely targeting elders," officer Day said.
