Friends of Tisbury Council on Aging seeks new volunteers

The Friends of the Tisbury Council on Aging (FTCA) is seeking some new volunteers to join them in supporting programs and raising funds for the Tisbury Senior Center.

Over the years the not-for-profit FTCA has provided many “extras” at the Senior Center and paid for unexpected expenses that were not included in its town-funded budget, according to board member Bruce Doten.

Among those are a wide-screen TV, floor coverings and furnishings, exhaust fans for the much-used kitchen, summer luncheons, and holiday and special-event flowers, table decorations, and wreaths.

Past fundraisers have included food basket raffles and a summer mini-clambake. The FTCA also does whatever it can to support the Tisbury Senior Center’s programs and hosts community-oriented events such as a recent springtime tea in honor of John “Jay” Grande, Tisbury’s new town administrator.

The FTCA invites anyone who might be interested in volunteering to attend its annual meeting at the Senior Center at 2 pm on Thursday, June 13. “You don’t have to be a senior to support the seniors,” Mr. Doten said.
