Are you going to the Taste? Anyone have extra tickets for the Taste? What are you wearing to the Taste? These are among the most popular questions in Edgartown right now. The “Taste” in question is of course, A Taste of the Vineyard, the Preservation Trust’s annual fundraiser and unofficial summer party-starter.

The fun begins with Thursday night’s Gourmet Stroll, which offers food, wine, and hand-crafted beers from over 75 Island participants, as well as the booty-shakin’ sounds of Jerry Bennett and the Sultans of Swing’s 12-piece band. Follow this with Saturday’s Vineyard Patrons’ Dinner Dance and Auction, and the weekend is complete. Full info about the events as well as the Preservation Trust’s current projects can be found at mvpreservation.org. So whatever you can do at this point to snag a ticket to one of these sold-out events, you will not regret it! And if you’re missing out, seriously, plan a little better next year?

Tara Reynolds has certainly been keeping busy. Tara has published a children’s book called Alphabet Zooup, an alphabet book for ages 2-6 composed of 26 collages, one for each letter. Tara has since been hitting the elementary school circuit, talking to children about her book and she even brings along some of the original collage artwork so that the children can check it out. Tara will be throwing an open house Saturday, June 15, from 5 to 8 pm at the new Ag Hall in West Tisbury to celebrate the book’s release. The book, published by Vineyard Stories, is available for purchase at Edgartown Books, Bunch of Grapes, and Alley’s.

The M.V. Museum will hold their annual Opening Party Friday, June 14, from 5 to 7 pm at the Edgartown Campus. This year, the museum will debut a new exhibit, Ladies of the Sea: Tull, Treat, and Jernegan, devoted to the work of three artists inspired by the sea. Also new at the Opening Party will be the collection items featured in the Museum’s rotating Spotlight Gallery. The Museum recently received a donation of 14 booklets of sheet music. Published by composer and bandleader Will Hardy, the music recalls the days of the Tivoli ballroom in Oak Bluffs. Hardy managed the ballroom for 16 years in the early 20th century. Included in the donation were 11 original music manuscripts and photographs of Hardy and the ballroom. In addition to these exhibits, the 18th Century Cooke House will open for the season at the Opening Party. New this summer, the parlor of the house will include larger items that coincide with the Museum’s exhibition, A Taste for the Exotic: Mementos from Around the Globe, which opened Memorial Day weekend.

Happy anniversary to Conrad and Sara Kurth, who clocked 40 years of marriage on June 1. The kids and grandkids came to visit to help celebrate this milestone. Here’s to many more years of happiness.

Eleanor Luce would like to wish a happy birthday to the best lawn groomer, Jimmy Luce, whose birthday is June 15. Keep that grass lookin’ good.

Happy birthday to Shannon Dolby Smith, who celebrates June 13. Shannon and the kids will be down for the summer soon, so dust off your party pants. Additional birthday wishes go out to Kevin Searle, June 15; to Michael Valenti and Sara Tiemann, June 18; and to Ed Gargan, Kelly Boccia, and Michael Gazaille, June 19. Hope you all have fun!
