The boys of summer returned to Veterans Park last week for the start of the men’s Island Softball League season.

Monday night at Veterans Park, the two-time defending champion Hurricanes were sent out to sea by the Sons of Pitches, 15-5. Nick Billingham hit a towering homer in the seventh inning for the SOPs, while Pat Rolston belted a monster three-run shot for the ‘Canes in the fourth.

On June 6, the Brewhas outslugged the Wildcats, 20-15, in a matchup featuring two of the league’s oldest teams.

Games are held each Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday at Veterans Park through August 1. Playoffs begin on August 6. In all games played through June 24, in order to fit in the three scheduled games per night, players will be limited to one pitch per at bat, because Martha’s Vineyard Youth Soccer has reserved the playing fields until 7 pm.
