Bring your family and a picnic, beach chairs or a blanket, and enjoy the outdoors listening to local musicians on Musical Mondays at Featherstone. Musical Mondays begins its 17th year Monday, June 24, from 6:30 to 8 pm on the outdoor stage at the natural amphitheater behind the Featherstone Center for the Arts, located on Barnes Road in Oak Bluffs.

The new season premiers with seasoned guitarist Jon Zeeman and friends playing jazz, funk, and blues.

Mr. Zeeman decided on a career in music at the age of 13. He admits to being obsessed with guitars, amplifiers, wah-wah pedals, power tubes, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones.

He studied music at Ithaca College for two years before leaving to play on the road. In the mid 1980s, he moved to New York City and became involved in producing, session work, and song writing, working at his “Studio Z” in a downtown loft. He played and toured with several groups in Scandinavia during those years.

He began performing his own music in the mid 90s, working regularly at 55 Bar, a blues-jazz-rock club, and other New York venues. He now lives on Martha’s Vineyard and West Palm Beach, Fla., where he performs regularly. He has toured, recorded, and performed with Susan Tedeschi, Janis Ian, The Burns Sisters Band, Chris Spedding, and The Allman Brothers Band.

Mr. Zeeman released a new CD, “Down on My Luck,” in April.

On July 1, hear the pop and soul sounds of Joanne Cassidy and friends. July 8 features the folk based tunes of Tristan Israel, Nancy Jephcote, and Paul Thurlow. Kevin Keady travels to Oak Bluffs from Chappaquiddick to play his folk and Americana songs on July 15. Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish play on July 22, Mike Benjamin on July 29, the Jemima James Variety Show on August 5, and on August 12 The Grateful Dread rounds out the summer schedule.

Admission is $10, $5 with Our Island Club card, and children under 14 are free. For more information call 508-693-1850 or go to featherstoneart.org.
