Banner weekend for young Martha’s Vineyard tennis players

Martha’s Vineyard tennis players Justice Yennie, Victoria Scott, Kiric Hallahan and Kelly Klaren excelled in three tennis tournaments last weekend.

Justice served in 18 and under tourney

Justice Grey Yennie of West Tisbury won the 18 and under tennis title on a steamy Sunday afternoon at the Lakeville Athletic Club, defeating second seed Nathaniel Friedman of Boston, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1), on clay in the final. Justice began the tourney Saturday with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Samuel Phan of Boston. In the quarterfinals he knocked out top seed Patrick Sheehan-Delany of Ridgefield, Connecticut, 7-6 (7-1), 7-5, and advanced to the final match when his semifinal opponent withdrew.Justice completed his fourth and final year with the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School boys tennis team on June 15 when the Vineyarders defeated Bromfield, 4-1, to win a second consecutive MIAA state Division 3 championship. His record with the Vineyarders the past three seasons was 58-1.

Hail Victoria, Kelly, and Kiric

At the Girls 12 and Under Championships level 7 event Saturday in Guilford, Connecticut, third-seeded Victoria Scott of Edgartown won the final, defeating Jordan Weinberg of Winchester 6-1, 6-1.

Sunday at Farm Neck in Oak Bluffs, Kelly Klaren teamed with Kiric Hallahan to defeat Paula Rego and Todd Hollister, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, to take home the B Mixed Doubles title at the Early Bird Doubles Tournament.
