Tisbury police chief Dan Hanavan announced there’s a new lieutenant in town. His name is Eerik Meisner.

Mr. Meisner was scheduled to be formally appointed by selectmen on Tuesday night and officially sworn in by the town clerk on Wednesday. Earlier this week he was out and about meeting town residents.

Lt. Meisner is no stranger to the Vineyard. He grew up in Edgartown and graduated from Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School in 1988. He attended Clark University in Worcester. Over the course of his summers, he worked as a special officer for Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, and Tisbury.

Lt. Meisner found a full-time position with the Titusville, Fla. police department where he has worked for the past 18 years, earning the rank of sergeant. During his career in Florida he spent time as a school resource officer, was a team leader of the SWAT team, and led a 12-man detective squad.

Chief Hanavan said he looks forward to Lt. Meisner sharing his knowledge with the department. “He is a professional police officer, and is down-to-earth,” he said. “He will be a good fit.”
