Clara Maynard, 18, of Chilmark, was one of four dressage riders selected to represent Region 8, encompassing all of New England, New York, and New Jersey, at the North American Junior and Young Rider Championships, July 17 to 21 in Lexington, Kentucky. The NAJYRC is the premier equestrian competition in North America for riders aged 14 to 21. Ms. Maynard will be competing in the discipline of dressage with equestrians from all of the US, Bermuda, Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and the Caribbean Islands. Clara is the daughter of Kristina Kinsman Maynard and Gary Maynard of Chilmark. She has been training as an equestrian since the age of seven, principally under the tutelage of Tracy Olsen at Woodbe Farm in West Tisbury and Pamela Goodrich at Foster Meadow Farm in Boscawen, NH.

Clara has been training her 10-year-old Oldenburg mare, Diamond Delight, for the past four years. She recently graduated from MVRHS and will be attending Brown University this fall.
