The first week of the men’s Oak Bluffs Summer League came to a close Tuesday night at Niantic Park with a marquee matchup between the defending champion Monstars and perennially tough Stone Cold Chaos.

The champs dominated the first ten minutes, building up a 22-12 lead before Chaos broke out with an 11-4 run to close the half down 26-23. Two minutes into the second half, it was the Monstars who were stone cold as Chaos claimed the lead 29-26.

The resilient Monstars refused to crumble and responded with an 11-4 run of their own to wrest back the lead at 37-33. The lead grew to 48-40 with 5:40 left on the clock before Chaos charged back again. Steve Handy drained a trey with 29 ticks left to cut the Monstars’ lead to 50-49. Brant Silvia and Matt Rivers each went 1 for 2 at the line to make it 52-49. Nick Diodati nearly sent the game into overtime, but his three point attempt rimmed out at the buzzer.

Brant Silvia and Terrell Johnson led the way for Monstars with 17 points apiece, while Steve Handy (14 points) and T.J. Van Gervan (10) paced Stone Cold Chaos.
