It was a “happy on Chappy” kind of day this past Sunday. Although the meteorologists flip-flopped all week between Sunday being possibly an apocalyptic nightmare of unpredictable weather events or possibly a pretty okay beach day, I was relieved to wake up to the latter — in fact, beyond “pretty okay,” I’d give it an A+. Blue skies and sun, and lovely waters at East Beach made for a lovely day of floating in the lazy surf.

We were lucky to spot the Sylvias down the beach and invite them to join. Jake and Annie and their handsome little charmer, Benjamin, joined us in the sand, along with their two dogs, Stella and Tessa, who were experiencing the beach for their very first time. From the refreshing swims to the steak tip scraps, I think I can safely say these K9 ladies were quite content in their sandy surroundings.

My dad should be seriously jealous of this next item: on Sunday evening, July 8th, Julianne Kavoussi and my friends spotted an American bald eagle on Zoll Road. What an amazing sight that must have been.

Also, the Council on Aging has just launched a website, so visit http://myecoa.wix.com/ecoa for information and future scheduled events.

Flatbread Co. will host a benefit for the Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living, Tuesday, July 23. For every pizza sold throughout the day and evening (dine-in or takeout), Flatbread will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Center for Living as they get a little closer to the dream of a permanent home for the Supportive Day Program. There will also be a silent auction with many great items. Bring your family and your houseguests for pizza and salads served indoors or outdoors or for takeout. For further info, contact Ginger Duarte at 508-693-6570.
