The coolest place on the Island during a hot and humid Tuesday night was the Martha’s Vineyard Arena, where the puck dropped on the summer ice hockey season.

Four teams: Black, Red, Blue, and Gold, composed of high school and junior high skaters from on Island and off, will compete each Tuesday and Thursday night in the Martha’s Vineyard Summer Hockey League (MVSHL). Games are 8 pm and 9 pm.

In the opening contest on Tuesday, Team Black topped the Reds 7-4. Alexander Vukota racked up three goals and two assists for the victors. Tyson Araujo notched a hat trick and added an assist for the Reds. Cathal Robinson was the winning goalie.

Team Gold downed the Blues, 5-2, in the nightcap. Brian Fraser had a goal and three assists to lead the Golds. Noah Kleinhenz got the win between the pipes.

Thursday night, Red skates against Gold at 8 pm, followed by Black vs. Blue at 9 pm.
