Tonight Judith Dowling, Asian Art Specialist from Skinner, Inc., will discuss the objects that sailors and whalers brought back to New England ports. She will focus on some of the items in the MV Museum exhibit and other artifacts she has seen. $8 members, $12 for others, at 5:30 pm at the Federated Church in Edgartown.

Tomorrow she is one of the appraisers at the Appraisal Day in the Museum Library held from 9 to 3 pm on School Street in Edgartown.

New works are on display at the Louisa Gould Gallery by artists John Holladay, Nick Paciorek, and Joan Rusitzky through the end of the month. Meet these artists Saturday from 5 to 7 pm and enjoy live music by Michael Haydn.

Tomorrow get your beach books at the Vineyard Haven Library from 1 to 3 pm. At 7 pm next Tuesday I predict a crowd to hear author Jeremy D’Entremont talk about lighthouses and the men who kept the lights burning. He is the leading expert on historic lighthouses in New England.

This Tuesday a portion of the profits at Flatbread Pizza will go to The MV Center for Living. Dine in or take out. For every pizza sold, Flatbread will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living in support of a permanent home for the Supportive Day Program.

Tell the kids to get a Waldo passport at the Bunch of Grapes Bookstore. Then they can look for Waldo in any shop with a Waldo sign in the window. Collect a stamp from every shop and enter a drawing for prizes to be awarded at the Waldo Party on the 31st at Bunch of Grapes.

Adults will enjoy Henry 4 at the Tisbury Amphitheatre at the Tashmoo Overlook. Performances are Wednesday through Saturday evenings at 5 pm. Tickets are $20. The Fabulists present a variation on Androcles and the Lion for children every Saturday morning at 10, all summer long. Cost is $5 for children, $10 for adults. The new lobby at the Vineyard Playhouse hosts Art Space with a reception this Saturday from 4 to 8 pm to introduce you to the work of Tom Smith.

This Sunday at 2 pm you can meet author Ward Just at the Vineyard Haven Library. I hope he will read from his latest work. This event is free and open to the public.

Sunday evening bring your chairs and enjoy the Vineyard Haven Band Concert at 8 pm in Owen Park. If it rains, come on Monday.

The Mansion House Health Club has 13 new group cycle bikes by Lifecycle. Over 20 classes are offered including In Cycle classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:45 am and Wednesday and Friday at 6:30 am. The bikes join new cardio equipment from TechnoGym.

Slow Food Martha’s Vineyard has a tour beginning at the Grey Barn with brunch, rain or shine. The Coop deVille Tour, in Celebration of the Local Egg, is the first Sunday in August from 10:30 am to 4 pm. See various breeds, talk chickens, enjoy an egglicious brunch, and then get your tour map and visit any of the sites you wish. Local artist Donna Straw is featured at Cousen Rose Gallery with a reception this Saturday evening at 7 pm.

Enjoy lovely photos and a variety of art work by Doug Peckham on Saturday from 10 to 5 and Sunday from 1 to 5. His studio is at 56 Pennacook Avenue. He has acrylics, pastels, and watercolors covering many Island subjects.

Happy anniversary to Eric and Susan Lopes on Monday. They married at the Gay Head lighthouse in 2000.
