The classic and the contemporary come together at Dreamland this week, with a lineup that includes The Rebirth Brass Band, Howie Day, and The Wailers.

Rebirth

On Thursday, July 25, Rebirth Brass Band brings the horn sounds of New Orleans to Martha’s Vineyard. Formed in 1983 by tuba/sousaphonist Philip Frazier and his brother, bass drummer Keith Frazier, “Rebirth” has progressed from the streets of the French Quarter to stages throughout the U.S., Europe, and Africa.

While their sound remains true to traditional New Orleans brass bands, the band incorporates modern music and heavy funk to create “a signature brand” which they say, “has not only won over several generations of music lovers,” but “become the soundtrack to an entire city.”

Howie Day

On Friday, July 26, Dreamland opens its doors to singer-songwriter Howie Day, best known for his 2004 radio hit “Collide.”

The pop-rock artist, who has released three full length albums and a handful of EP’s since the late 90s, is celebrated by fans and critics for his versatile tenor vocals and gentle melodies. According to a press release, Mr. Day puts on a “powerful one-man show, connecting with audiences through his charm, humor, [and] the strength of his songwriting.”

The Wailers

After a benefit concert by Lori McKenna on Saturday, Dreamland’s lineup continues with a show by the legendary reggae group The Wailers on Tuesday, July 30.

The Wailers once included the likes of reggae superstars Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, and they have sold upwards of 250 million albums worldwide. Today, The Wailers are often led by Aston “Family Man” Barrett, whom The Wailers’ website describes as Bob Marley’s “most trusted lieutenant.” Along with the vocal sounds of Danglin, the modern day Wailers promise a set list of the reggae classics that defined the musical genre.

Doors for all shows open at 9 pm. Tickets start at $25 for Rebirth Brass Band, $20 for Howie Day, and $30 for The Wailers. V.I.P. packages are available for all shows. All shows are 21+. For tickets and more information, call 508-560-1932 or visit dreamlandmv.com.
