This sister ship is a Southern Cross 31, the kind of sail boat the Coast Guard is searching for.

The U.S. Coast Guard is searching by air and sea for an overdue sailboat, whose last known position was east of Cape Cod. The Coast Guard is also asking for the help of other boaters to locate the sailing vessel Austina, a 31-foot Southern Cross sloop. The hull is white.

Stephen Crane, 61, departed Portland, Maine on August 1, intending to sail to Fernandina, Florida. He was due to arrive at Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, on Thursday, August 8, but his sister called the Coast Guard and reported him missing.

He last reported his position on Sunday, August 4, as he rounded Cape Cod.

Coast Guard aircraft were to begin aerial searches of the Cape Cod and Cape Hatteras regions Friday morning.

The Coast Guard asks anyone with information about Mr. Crane or the sailing vessel Austina to contact watchstanders at 617-223-8555, or contact the Coast Guard on VHF channel 16.
