Vineyard House Water Tasting

The Oyster Pond estate formerly known as the Clinton Summer White House will be the home of the 16th Annual Water Tasting on August 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

Proceeds benefit the Vineyard House, a nonprofit that provides sober housing for Islanders in recovery from substance abuse. Hosted by Richard and Nancy Friedman, the tasting includes a diverse selection of gourmet foods accompanied by still and sparkling waters from around the world.

There will be a silent auction, including artwork from the Island’s leading artists, and music by the Beetlebung Steel Band. Tickets — $100 — are available for purchase online at vineyardhouse.org, or by calling 508-693-8580.

Illumination Night

When the sun goes down on Wednesday, August 14, the Grand Illumination of the Oak Bluffs Campgrounds, hosted by the Martha’s Vineyard Camp Meeting Association, begins. Tour the Tabernacle area and surrounding gingerbread cottages with porches adorned with beautiful paper lanterns. There will be a band concert and sing-a-long preceding the “Lighting of Lanterns” at 8 pm. Lantern painting crafts are available at the Tabernacle (508-677-7184), the Oak Bluffs Library (508-693-9433), and the Vineyard Haven Library (508-696-4211) earlier in the day.
