Richard Lee Maciel of Middleboro died on Saturday, August 10, 2013, at the Brockton Veterans Administration Hospital. He was 75.
He was the husband of Joan Elaine (Thompson) Maciel; they had been married for 52 years. He was born in Oak Bluffs, the son of the late Raul Jr. and Mary Jane (Smith) Maciel. He had served in the United States Army. He was a self-employed painter.
Richard was a member of the Veterans Association at Oak Point. He was an avid golfer, and had a hole in one at Bridgewater’s Olde Scottish Links. He was known as “the gadget guy,” and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Mark, and his wife, Laura Lee Maciel, of Oak Bluffs; a daughter, Marcia, and her husband, Steven Binninger, of Fall River; three brothers, Robert Maciel of West Tisbury, Roy and Russell Maciel, both of Vineyard Haven; and three grandchildren, Jacob S. Waters-Maciel of Maryland and Jessica L. and Tayler N. Lundquist, both of Somerset.
Visiting hours will be held in the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St Middleboro, on Tuesday, August 13, from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, August 14, at 12:30 pm. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 2:15 pm.
