Neither woman has ever had a partner, or a friend for that matter. Melissa McCarthy is hilariously over the top as the cop. Also starring Sandra Bullock, Ben Falcone.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (PG)

A family adventure fantasy based on a novel by Rick Riordan. The son of Poseidon and his friends embark on a quest to restore their safe haven and to find the mythical Golden Fleece while trying to stop an ancient evil from rising. Starring Alexandra Daddario, Logan Lerman, and Nathan Fillion.

Planes (PG)

In this animated Disney comedy inhabited by talking cars and planes, Dusty is a crop-dusting plane who is afraid of heights yet he dreams of competing in a famous aerial race. With help from friends he flies off to make his dream come true. Starring the voices of Dane Cook, Stacy Keach, and Brad Garrett.

The Way Way Back (PG-13)

From the same production company that made “Juno” and “Little Miss Sunshine,” a coming of age movie about a shy 14-year-old’s summer vacation on the Cape with his mother, her overbearing boyfriend, and his daughter. He finds an unexpected friend in the manager of the local water park and develops some of the self-confidence he lacked. Starring Steve Carell, Toni Collette, and Allison Janney.

We’re the Millers (R)
