Stephen Michael Laverty died on Thursday, August 22, peacefully and in the company of loved ones at his home in Provo, Utah. He was 56 years old.

Steve was born in Boston on September 19, 1956, to Kathryn E. McCarthy and Frank D. Laverty. As the son of a carpenter, Steve learned the trade at an early age and made home building his life-long profession. He also worked as a firefighter and paramedic in his home town of Hyannis until moving to Martha’s Vineyard in 1980, where he worked as a General Contractor and as a lumber salesman at H.N. Hinckley & Sons Inc. His expert craftsmanship can be seen all over Martha’s Vineyard, a place he always loved.

Steve moved to Utah in 2002 where he resided until his passing. Steve was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he will be forever remembered for his years of faithful service. He will be deeply missed by many, including his wife, Mary Jane, and his children, Stephen (Tracy), Michael (Lia), Randy, Janette (Dave), and Ronda (BJ), as well as his 10 grandchildren.

A service will be held on August 31 at 6 pm at 1260 West 1150 North, Provo, UT 84604. A separate memorial service is planned for a later date on Martha’s Vineyard. Memorial contributions may be made at http://www.giveforward.com/fundraiser/vmv2/steve-laverty-cancer-fund.
