The Snaps edged the Honeys 8-7 Wednesday night at Veterans Park to win their second Martha’s Vineyard Women’s softball title.

Summer Clements, Kaylea Moore, and Chrissy McCarthy had two RBIs each to lead the Snaps, who last won in 2011. Martha Scheffer hit two doubles, totaling three RBIs for the dethroned defending champions.

The Snaps and Honeys finished the regular season 1-2 and were the last teams standing in the double elimination playoffs. The teams met first Tuesday night, with the Snaps, unbeaten in tournament play, needing one win to clinch the title and the Honeys, with one loss, having to beat the Snaps twice. The Honeys won big 18-3, setting up a one-game winner take all finale.

The Snaps, error-prone and listless on Tuesday, were charged up from the first pitch in the rematch and rang up a 7-0 lead after three innings. The Honeys responded with three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth before the Snaps got their final score in the bottom of the fifth. The Honeys continued to chip away, scoring once in the sixth and twice in the seventh but Snaps third baseman Chrissy McCarthy made the final putout on a force at second to end the game and set off the celebrations for Team Green.
