What was your favorite thing you did this summer?

Lavinia: I liked the whole weeks.

Jean: Munching on popsicles.

Emily: Going to the aquarium [in Connecticut].

Frankie: Ice skating.

Calahan: Diving in the pool.

Caleb: I liked all of it.

What are you going to wear on the first day of school?

Lavinia: I’m going to wear a dress that’s prettier than anything in the whole entire world.

Jean: This dress.

Jane: A doggy shirt.

Frankie: This.

Calahan: I don’t know what I’m going to wear.

Do you have a new backpack or school supplies that you’re excited about?

Emily: I have a horsey backpack and a horsey lunchbox.

Jean: I have a backpack and a lunchbox with a little handle with a butterfly on it with little containers and a monkey ice pack and a soup can with butterflies on it. And the lunchbox is sparkly.

What are you going to pack for lunch on the first day of school?

Emily: Strawberries.

Lavinia: A banana with fruit punch in it.

Do you have any advice for someone who is nervous about going to a new school?

Jean: Painting.

Lavinia: The first time you come there, you will just feel a little nervous but you can just make new friends. That’s what happens at my school. I was a little nervous because I didn’t know any friends, but I made friends with them.

What are you excited to learn or do in school this year?

Frankie: When you go to gym you get to go to the waterpark.

Jean: Writing! Writing! Writing!

Lavinia: You’re going to learn a lot of new stuff that is a little bit tricky because you’re going into first grade.

What was your favorite book you read this summer?

Jean: All of them.

Lavinia: A dragon book, a fairy book, and the one about Egypt.

What are you looking forward to on the first day of school?

Caleb: Recess.

Calahan: Eating lunch.

Frankie: Gym.

Teagan: Lunch.

Emily: New books.

Are you nervous or excited about going back to school?

Lavinia: I want to go to first grade! I want to go to first grade!

Jane: I’m half nervous, half excited.
