Hats off to the staff

To the Editor:

It is with great pleasure and excitement that I announce the overwhelming success of our annual Chicken Alley Art Show and Sale this year. The total from the day of the sale, the preceding Needle Book Fashion Show and Community Couture, and subsequent post event sales of art show inventory raised $60,000. While this amount has exceeded all expectations, what really exceeded all expectations was the commitment, effort, and energies of staff at the Thrift Shop.

Our Chicken Alley Thrift Shop exists to support our community through the services of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services. But our Thrift Shop exists because of you. Full-time, part-time, and volunteer staff make us a community unto ourselves. Our customers depend on us every day of the year, not just for “good stuff cheap” to get by in an ever increasingly difficult world, but for a warm and inviting place. We are a community in which they are welcome and belong. The reason for this is you.

The Art Show weekend is only a display of a year-round effort. Its success cannot happen without daily effort. On top of the daily workload to keep our Thrift Shop moving, the attention to the annual summer event every day of the year is key.

This is where each and every one of you comes in. Your efforts leading up to the show, a hard long day of the show, weeks of preparation, and then numerous customers days after, culminated in an unqualified success. So here’s to you all, each and every one of you, each and every day.
