The boys soccer team started the season with a win and a draw. Jason Lages scored in the 25th minute Monday as the Vineyarders drew 1-1 at Barnstable. Martha’s Vineyard began the season with a 1-0 win over Nauset on September 5 in North Eastham. The boys host Nauset Saturday at 4:30 pm in the home opener.
The soccer girls were the first Vineyard side to play in front of the home crowd, losing a hard-fought 2-0 match to Cohasset. The girls open the Eastern Athletic Conference schedule Tuesday at Somerset Berkley.
The Vineyard golfers lost a heartbreaker Tuesday in the home opener at Farm Neck. Bishop Stang won the EAC contest by a sliver, 267-268. The Vineyarders started off the fall schedule on September 5 with a 228-264 league loss to Bishop Feehan.
The field hockey team hosts Ursuline Academy of Dedham Saturday at 12:30 pm and starts the EAC schedule Tuesday at home (3 pm) vs. Bishop Stang. The Vineyarders were to have started the season September 5 in Falmouth, but the Clippers’ waterlogged field was unsuitable for play. The Vineyard freshmen were in action against Dennis-Yarmouth Tuesday in Oak Bluffs. Kylie Hatt scored for Martha’s Vineyard, but the Dolphins won 2-1.
Donald Herman’s varsity Vineyard gridders will look to get in the win column Saturday at 1 pm at Dan McCarthy Field against the Brighton High Bengals.
