On Sunday the Friends of the Library will host the annual 5K Race for the Library. The 5k Run/Walk starts at the library at 9:45 am. Runners go to the West Chop lighthouse and back. The 1/2 Mile Fun Run for Kids (13 & under) is also at 9:45 am. There will be prizes for winners in all age groups, and a raffle. Register at vhlibrary.org.

Next Tuesday at 7 pm you can hear a true story of disaster at sea and an incredible rescue. Michale Tougias has written about other adventures at sea. This Tuesday at our library he will tell you a story about A Storm Too Soon, the daring attempt of a Coast Guard crew to rescue three men from their life raft, being bounced about by 70-foot waves.

Also next week The History of Opera will be told on Thursday at 7 pm and Saturday morning at 10:30 at the Vineyard Haven Library. Susan Grunthal is back. Pick up your class materials before each session at the front desk.

Children aged 4 to 14 are invited to register for Sunday school at the First Baptist Church by phone 508-693-1539 or following the Rally Day Music Celebration at the 11 am Sunday worship. You are welcome to join in on Sunday if you play an instrument of any kind, whether kazoos, harmonicas, flute, cello, brass, reed, or spoons.

The Tisbury Travel Club invites you to a day at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston on Friday, November 1. Three new traveling exhibits will be offered: John Singer Sargent Watercolors; Audubon’s Birds, Audubon’s Words; and Hippy Chic. You can explore the entire museum. Cost is $48 for museum admission and bus from Woods Hole. Lunch is on your own at the museum when you want to take a break. Leave the driving to others and enjoy the day. The MV Striped Bass & Bluefish Derby opens at one minute past midnight on Sunday morning. You must be registered to fish. You can register anytime before or during the Derby at any tackle shop on the Island. Kids Derby Day is from 6 to 8 am at the SSA wharf in Oak Bluffs a week from Sunday. The Derby ends October 19. School is open and many summer visitors have gone. But Grace Church lobster rolls are ready for you every Friday until the end of September. Pie and hot dogs are available too, from 4 to 7:30 pm.

Did you enjoy the wonderful Film Festival? Richard Paradise promises that many of the films will be shown in September and October as well.
