Well, our five-star rated fall season is definitely here. I was greeted by one of those beautiful red, sky on fire sunrises this Monday morning. Somewhere in the back of my head, though, ran that saying “red sky at morning, sailors take warning.” Let’s see how the day progressed.
Busy times for me last week. On Friday my cousins Jodi Gordon and her sister Judy, both from the Cape, and Garry Warren from Rochester, N.Y., came for the day. Judy and Gary had not been here for at least 40 years so as you can imagine they were astonished at the many changes. As I took them for a tour through Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven, one thing that made a great impression on them was the many gardens and flowers in front of stores and homes indicating the pride some take in their property and town.

There was a time when there was no Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School. There are a few of us still around who graduated from Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, or Tisbury High School. Many of us attended our 60th high school reunion on Saturday last at Farm Neck Cafe. Former high school rivalries, which were fierce at times, were forgotten at a social hour, where everyone mingled, preceding the luncheon. Then we each went to our designated town tables, where with some laughter, a few spouses separated and went to different tables as they had attended different town schools and dared to have married someone from a rival town. A moment of silence was held for deceased class members. It was agreed that 60 years went by too quickly and we all did not look a bit different or had improved with age. Much laughter, conversation, and love was exchanged by those present but we thought it best not to wait another 10 years to hold another reunion.
We send birthday smiles to Ronnie Klein on September 19, Corey and Amber Medeiros on the 20th, Ruth Metell and Ruth Van Brakle on the 21st, Alice June Thompson on the 22nd, Ken Davey and Annabelle Metell on the 24th and Dustin Shaw on the 25th.
Smiles to those I might have missed and get well wishes to those in need of a healing smile.
Enjoy your week.
