Barbara Ann Berninger of Oak Bluffs died on Tuesday, September 17, at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. She was 82.
Barbara was born on September 21, 1930 in the Bronx, New York, to John and Ethel Annie (Winder) Walter. She worked for the New York Telephone Company and was very proud at the age of 50 to become the first women lineman. After her retirement some 30 plus years ago she moved permanently to Oak Bluffs.
Barbara is survived by her children, Susan Pillard of Texas, John Berninger of Mashpee, Elizabeth Requena of Oak Bluffs, Thomas Berninger of Oak Bluffs, and Joanne LaPierre of Vineyard Haven, also ten grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and two grandchildren, John Berninger Jr. and Sarah Berninger.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 23, 12 noon in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Vineyard Haven.
