Ceremony of Remembrance at Edgartown Lighthouse

A Ceremony of Remembrance at the Children’s Memorial at the Edgartown Lighthouse on Saturday, September 21, will honor the lives of children who have died. Richard Harrington, who lost his 16-year-old son in an automobile accident, established the memorial. It was dedicated in 2001, and the first Ceremony of Remembrance took place that fall. The celebration has since become a beloved tradition for families and friends of the children memorialized in 615 stones that are a part of the memorial. The ceremony begins at 1 pm, and refreshments will be provided by the Harbor View Hotel. Rain date is September 28. Stones may be purchased for $250, by contacting Betsey Mayhew at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, bmayhew@mvmuseum.org, or by calling the Museum at 508-627-4441 x112.
