If it’s true what they say about the amount of acorns on the ground acting as an early predictor for a cold winter, then we are in for a doozy. Those things are everywhere! Better not park your car under an oak tree these days. Well, it certainly makes us more grateful for the unseasonably higher temps of late.
All you fisher-people have been relishing the nice weather, and the Derby weigh-in is proof of that. I’ve seen some familiar names cropping up on the leaderboard over the past few weeks. Derby veterans like Etsey Teller and Cooper Gilkes are among the current Grand and Senior leaders, while Joseph Serpa is leading his division, and Bob Hayman and Rob Morrison have weeklies to show for. Keep ‘em coming, folks!

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is sponsoring the second annual “Walk for the Animals” on Saturday, October 12 (rain date: Monday, October 14), at Trade Winds Park in Oak Bluffs to raise funds for the shelter’s many activities. Happy belated birthday to Susan Koerner, who celebrated her day October 8. Hope you had a lovely time.
Additional birthday wishes go out to Kraig Mundt, October 11; to my big bro Chris Dolby, October 12; and to Dan Deslauriers, October 13. Let’s hope for a Bruins W for Kraig, a big striper for Chris, and a big ol’ bowl of pancake batter for Danny D.
