The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School golf team needed to win its final two matches to make the state tournament. They did just that. Friday at Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown, the Vineyarders clinched a berth in the post-season with a 40-14 match play win over Sturgis West Charter School of Hyannis. Matt Marchand shot a 38 to lead M.V.

The previous day at Farm Neck in Oak Bluffs, the Vineyarders beat Scituate 259 – 272. Senior co-captains Kat deBettencourt and Matt Marchand each shot 41. The Sailors came into the match with a 10-3-1 record. The teams played to a tie in their previous encounter this season.

Coach Doug Debettencourt’s Vineyarders won five of their final six matches to finish the regular season with an 8-7-1 record.

Next up is the MIAA State Division 3 South Sectional Tournament to be played Monday, October 21 at the Dennis Highlands golf course on the Cape. MVRHS will send six players to the event. The four best scores will be used.
