The MV United Under-12 boys travel soccer team won the championship of the inaugural Tidal Wave GPS Tsunami Cup held over the Columbus Day weekend at the Tidal Wave Soccer complex in Rehoboth. The local Cranberry League side won the title Sunday with a 5-2 victory over the Taunton Eagles of the Massachusetts Premier League (MAPLE). The young Vineyarders improved to 9-0. JoJo Bonneau was named tournament MVP for his stellar defensive work.

With only 30 minutes to recover from a 4-2 semifinal win over SCOR FC, United were again on the mark in the final. The Purple and Black jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 15 minutes on goals by Ben Taylor, Josh Sampaio, Nick DePaula, and Jack Holmes. Robe Della Torre sealed the title with a breakaway goal in the final minute.

United also got off to quick start in the semifinal. Morgan Estrella scored a brace in the opening 4:11. Ben Taylor gave MVU a 3-1 halftime lead with a 30-yard free kick. Josh Sampaio scored the final Vineyard goal.

The Vineyard opened group play Saturday against Taunton. Morgan Estrella and Robe Della Torre scored in a 2-0 win. Next, the U-12s won a 5-3 goalfest over Cumberland Youth CSP United. Jack Holmes, Jaiden Edelman, and Robe Della Torre scored in a ten-minute span to give MVU a 3-0 first half lead. Cumberland got on the board before the break, but Morgan Estrella restored the three-goal cushion ten minutes into the second half. After two Cumberland goals, Nick DePaula provided the insurance with five minutes left.

With the two wins, United won the group and clinched a semifinal berth.

The Tsunami Cup winning roster included: goalkeeper, Colby Zarba; defenders, Patrick Flaherty, JoJo Bonneau, and Daniel Bonneau; midfielders, Jack Holmes, Jaiden Edelman, Ben Taylor, and Morgan Estrella; forwards, Robe Della Torre, Noah Garcia, Nick DePaula, and Josh Sampaio.

The U-12s are next in action Saturday in Nantucket.
