MVRHS Sports Highlights


Field hockey

After the home finale for seniors Issy Smith, Mary Ollen, Kat Dorr, Alex Clark, Sarah Alexander, Chantal Booker, Leah Fortes, Caroline Gazaille, Alice Keenan, Charlotte McCarron, and Emma Yuen on October 8, the Vineyarders won the first of five away matches to close out the regular season. The Purple defeated Ursuline Academy, 2-1, October 10 in Dedham. Alex Clark and Lee Hayman scored for M.V.

The Vineyarders need a win or two ties in their final four games — at Somerset-Berkley (late Wednesday), Needham (October 17), Bishop Fenwick (Saturday), and Falmouth (Monday) — to qualify for the state tournament.

The Vineyard freshman team beat Dennis-Yarmouth, 2-1, on Monday. Kylie Hatt and Danielle Hopkins scored the Vineyard goals.

Cross country

The Vineyard harriers traveled to Attleboro October 9 to take on Eastern Athletic Conference juggernaut Bishop Feehan. The Vineyard girls raced well but lost their first meet of the season. The Shamrock’s Division 2 champ Abbie McNulty broke her own course record by 30 seconds with a time of 16:12. Julia Neville had the best Vineyard time, 19:53. Lilly Neville finished in 20:13.

Jeremy Alley-Tarter took second place (15:30) for the Vineyard boys in a 19-38 loss. George Sykes (16:22, 7th) and Patrick Best (16:28, 8th) also made the top ten.

The Vineyarders will compete Saturday evening in the Twilight Meet at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds.

Girls soccer

The Vineyard girls fell 7-0 away Tuesday to powerful Bishop Stang. On a brighter note, Monday, at MVRHS, the Vineyarders played Mashpee to a 0-0 draw and scored a 2-0 win Friday at Whitinsville Christian School.

The girls are back on home turf October 17 against Bishop Feehan and Wednesday for senior day against Dennis-Yarmouth. Both matches are at 3 pm.
