A resounding success

To the Editor:

The Save The Gay Head Lighthouse Committee thanks everyone who helped to make the first annual Gay Head 10K, A Race Against Time, the resounding success that it was.

The race would not have been possible without our generous and supportive sponsors: Alley’s General Store, Conroy Apothecary, Crane Appliances, Cronig’s Market, the Mansion House, Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank, Nike, Tea Lane Associates, T-Bird Group, Smoke Signals, South Mountain, Vineyard Propane, WampWorx, and Wynn and Wynn. Thanks for in-kind donations go to Araujo Brothers, Chilmark Chocolates, Coca-Cola, Tilton Tents, MV Transport, Vineyard Bottled Water, and Vineyard Grocer.

Volunteers came from every Island town and included: the Aquinnah Police and Fire Departments, Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah), police from all Island towns, Oak Bluffs Fire Department, Chilmark Highway Department, Massachusetts State Police, Tri-Town Ambulance, MVRHS Cross Country Team, MVRHS Boys Hockey Team, and anyone else we may have inadvertently missed.

We thank Paula Peters for presenting the idea for the race to the committee. Her help in getting things started and providing pertinent information was very helpful. Joe and Marylee Schroeder added a wealth of information and help, up to and during the race. And the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce also rallied for our cause.

We extend special thanks to Aquinnah Police Chief Randhi Belain and Jay and Zachary Smalley.

And, of course, thanks to all the runners. Without your participation this could never have happened.
