The Vineyard Squirts 2 team skated to a 3-1 win Saturday over host Franklin. Kaleb Hatt tallied twice and Jake Cleland scored the other. Hatt, Cleland, and Harper Hearn also picked up assists. Riley Sylvia was strong between the pipes. Strong positional play by the Vineyard defense kept Franklin without a breakaway and held the Panthers’ scoring chances to a minimum.

The Vineyard Peewees edged Oliver Ames of North Easton, 4-3. Joe Serpa scored twice, while Pete Gillis and Hunter Meader each totaled a goal and an assist. Lauren Boyd had two assists and Hoffie Hearn, one. Kenny Hatt and Jackson Pachico anchored the defense in front of Mike Metcalf, who was solid in goal.

Holmes Hole sailing

A late fall-season surge by skipper Roger Becker in Gloria pushed the C&C 24 to the top of the standings as the 2013 racing season came to a close. Gloria finished with a second and first place in the final two races for the Schwartz Cup, edging out Jerry Goodale’s Stormalong which failed to complete the minimum number of races.

With the season concluded, Commodore Dan Culkin has scheduled a Holmes Hole Sailing Association board meeting for this Saturday, October 19, to be held at the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club at 1 pm.
