Several streets in Vineyard Haven will be closed to motor vehicle traffic from 6 to 9 pm on Thursday, October 31.

William Street will be closed from Spring Street to Woodlawn Avenue. Franklin Street will be closed at Center Street, with a sign trailer to direct traffic onto Center Street.

Spring Street will be closed at Look Street. Center Street, Church Street and Colonial Lane will be closed off from Main Street.

Residents on the closed roads will be allowed vehicular access to and from their properties.

The goal is to ensure the safety of trick-or-treaters on Halloween. Only foot traffic will be allowed, so witches on brooms, assorted ghost traffic, and other unusual creatures will have to travel as pedestrians.

The Tisbury selectmen approved the street closings at their meeting Tuesday night at Police Chief Dan Hanavan’s request.
