Oak Bluffs designated a regional Veterans Day observance site

The Oak Bluffs Veterans Day Parade has been designated by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Veterans Day National Committee for the third year in a row as a regional site for the observance of the holiday. There are 63 similar sites nationwide.

Dukes County director of veterans services Jo Ann Murphy helped Peter Herrmann of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 9261, the parade’s organizer for many years, to submit the applications to the VA for the designation.

Oak Bluffs selectman chairman Walter Vail read the certificate at a meeting Tuesday. “We are the only town in Massachusetts, once again, to receive such a certificate,” he noted. “I think that’s fabulous.”

The Island’s Veterans Day parade steps off from Nancy’s Restaurant in Oak Bluffs at 10:45 am on November 11.
