Gas prices drop, more there than here

Gas prices dropped four cents a gallon over the past week and are down to an average of $3.30 per gallon, according to AAA Southern New England. Prices have fallen 13 cents a gallon over the past month, and are down 35 cents a gallon compared to this time a year ago, the State House News Service reported. Survey takers found gas for as low as $3.12 a gallon. The price drops come on the heels of passage of a 3-cent per gallon increase in the state gas tax this year, along with a law indexing the gas tax to inflation. Opponents of the indexing measure have labeled it a “forever tax” and are gathering signatures with the goal of repealing it at the November 2014 ballot.

On Martha’s Vineyard, the price of a gallon of regular ranged from about $4.12 to $4.25 on Monday.
