Family Duck Hunt

The Trustees of Reservations is celebrating the rich history of Long Point and The Tisbury Pond Club with a duck decoy scavenger hunt on Saturday, Nov. 16. From 10 am to 2 pm, families can hunt for duck decoys and participate in other activities for all age ranges. Admission is a $10 per family suggested donation; snacks and hot drinks will be provided. There is also a guided Natural History Walking Tour from 12 noon to 2 pm ($10; $5 member adults; free for children). For more information, call 508-693-7662.

Time to rock

Part auction and part 70s disco dance party, the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School’s annual Rock Auction is this Saturday, Nov. 16, at Dreamland in Oak Bluffs. Auctioneers Paul Karasik and Laura Sargent promise surprises and lots of laughs during the live auction, and the silent auction boasts many items for early holiday shopping, according to a press release. Casino Night postponed, Dine to Donate instead

The Boys and Girls Club regretfully announces its Casino Night, planned for this Friday, has been postponed, but will be re-scheduled. In place of that, Sharky’s Cantina in Edgartown stepped up to the plate and will host a Dine to Donate from 5 pm to close. Calling graphic artists of all ages

In honor of the Fern and Feather Camp’s 50th anniversary, Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary is holding a contest to redesign the camp’s logo. Artists of all ages are invited to create and submit as many logos as they like. Entries must be no larger than 8.5 x 11 inches and drawn on white paper. The logo that best captures the nature of the camp may be used for tee-shirts, bags, posters, and ads. Participants may send entries to felixneck@massaudubon.org, drop them by the Sanctuary, or send to P.O. Box 494, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568. The deadline for submissions is December 31, 2013.

Instill a Sense of Wonder with youth art classes

Fall art classes at Sense of Wonder have begun. After-school programs for young people ages 6 to 14 include drawing, painting, clay (hand and wheel), sculpture, printmaking, mixed media, art history, and more. Sessions run from 3:30 to 5 pm on Tuesdays for youths grades 1–3, on Wednesdays for grades 6–8, and on Thursdays for grades 3–5. If you’re a poet and you know it…

On Sunday, Nov. 17, from 4 to 5 pm, Bunch of Grapes Bookstore in Vineyard Haven hosts the West Tisbury Library’s semi-annual Community Poetry Reading. This event features community members reading their own poems and/or the poems of others. Members of the public are invited to attend as readers, listeners, or both. Numbers will be drawn from a hat to determine the reading order. West Tisbury’s Poet Laureate Justen Ahren will M.C. Admission is free and refreshments will be served. Hop on your holiday shopping

The Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center hosts a “Vineyard Artists” Holiday Sale from 11 am to 3 pm on Sunday, Nov. 17. Items for sale include jewelry, ceramics, glass, soaps, leather goods, books, clothing, handbags, photography, and ornaments by artisans such as Jeri Dantzig, Helayne Cohen, Sylvie Farrington, Joan Walsh, Diana Stewart, Stephanie Rossi, Betsy Edge, Marie MeyerBarton, Amy Nevin, Lisa Brown, Olivia Mason, Donna Michalski, Aaron Galvin, Whitney Moody, and Frayda Galvin. Tomorrow, tomorrow…

This Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15 and 16, the Edgartown School presents their fall play, “Annie Jr.” The musical is based on the popular comic strip and features 20 actors in grades five through eight. The show is stage directed by Donna Swift and musically directed by Kelly Sullivan. Showtime is 7 pm. Tickets are available at the door, $8 for adults and $6 for kids. “Mow Crew:” see it again

This past Tuesday, the film “Mow Crew,” shot on Martha’s Vineyard, was made available for online streaming. The film follows a young couple Eric (Aaron Lloyd Barr) and Sage (Saara Untracht-Oakner) through their last day on the Island before they are slated to move to Los Angeles, where a record contract supposedly awaits. “Mow Crew” features an original soundtrack by Mr. Barr and Ms. Untracht-Oakner. The romantic comedy, written and directed by Boston-based filmmaker and Martha’s Vineyard native Taylor Toole, won awards at the Boston International Film Festival, Kent Film Festival, and Woods Hole Film Festival.
