Winter weather was predicted for Tuesday – I wrote this on Monday – and we might even see a few snow flakes, so they say. I am not quite ready to exchange the rake for a snow shovel yet and can’t quite believe it might snow. But I am prepared for colder weather and the wood boxes inside and out are filled so we will be warm and cozy.
On Sunday, November 17, 4–5 pm, the fabulous Bunch of Grapes Bookstore in Vineyard Haven will host the West Tisbury Library’s semi-annual Community Poetry Reading. This event features community members reading their own poems and/or the poems of others. West Tisbury’s Poet Laureate Justen Ahren will MC. Refreshments served. Free and open to the public.
Beginning December 5, and running for eight weekly sessions on Thursdays, the Oak Bluffs library will host Little Yogis, a yoga instruction program for children ages 4 to 6. There are 8 spots available per class and pre-registration is required. Please call 508-693-9433, ext.141.
The date of the Friends of the OBCOA Holiday Bazaar was listed in error in my last column. The correct date is Saturday, December 7, from 9 am to 2 pm at the Senior Center.
The Unity Club of the Federated Church of Edgartown will hold its annual book talk on Monday, November 25 at 4 pm. Called Tea and Books, the speaker will be Susan Mercier of Edgartown Books who will talk about the latest books, including Christmas gift books, children’s books, coffee table books, and just plain good reading books. She will have some available for purchase that day. Tea and refreshments will be served, to be followed by Susan’s talk. This event is open to all at the Federated Church.
Forget cooking dinner tonight. Just make your way to the P-A Club in Oak Bluffs and enjoy their wonderful fish fry meal with many tempting sides. The hours are from 5 to 7 pm and you may take your meal out or sit and enjoy a great dinner and the company of very friendly people.
The Martha’s Vineyard Museum staff and board members want to share objectives for the transformation of the former Marine Hospital/St. Pierre School of Sport in Vineyard Haven with the community and get their feedback. Preliminary plans for the site will be presented followed by a discussion where people will have the opportunity to share comments and ideas and ask questions.
Museum planning committee member Chris Murphy will moderate the forums. The community forums will all take place from 5:30 to 7 pm. Residents from all six towns are invited to any of the following meetings: Thursday, November 14, at the Vineyard Haven Library; Monday, November 18, at the Congregational Church, West Tisbury; Tuesday, November 19, at the Federated Church, 45 South Summer Street, Edgartown; and on Wednesday, November 20, at the Oak Bluffs Library.
Don’t miss these two upcoming fall events at the library. At Turtle Time on Thursday, Nov. 14, 10:30–11:30 am, learn about the Island’s four native turtle species in this collaborative program with Felix Neck.

American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Bazaar is Sat. Nov. 23 from 10 am until 1 pm. There will be raffles, baskets, white elephant and a food table. The bazaar takes place at legion headquarters at 47 Martin Road, Vineyard Haven.
