Steamship Authority (SSA) members, meeting Tuesday in Woods Hole, reviewed three preliminary design concepts by Bertaux and Iwerks Architects for the planned reconstruction of the Woods Hole terminal.
The design team said that all the alternative designs include the need to move the existing administrative offices and maintenance shops off-site to another location that is yet to be determined. The existing terminal building will be demolished, opening up views to the water, and the existing terminal pier will be partly removed to make way for a relocated slip number three, according to a management report of Tuesday’s meeting.
“In all options there is the potential to devote more of the northern-most waterfront edge (current slip three) to public use,” the report said.
In other SSA business, the members voted to renew its transportation agreement with the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School with no increase in the fixed $60,000 contract. General manager Wayne Lamson also announced that headstart reservations for the summer schedule will be accepted by mail and Internet beginning January 7. Normal reservations will be taken beginning January 14, for the general public. Telephone reservations begin January 21.
