The Martha’s Vineyard Squirt 1 team skated to a doubleheader sweep of the Gateway (Wareham) girls Saturday at the MV Arena.

The hosts took care of business quickly in game one, scoring five times in the first period, en route to a 6-0 win. Dylan Biggs had a brace of goals and assists, while Daniel Serpa and Will Bruguiere notched a goal and assist apiece. John Coogan and Jacob Sylvia each scored a goal. Richie Combra had two assists; Cameron Geary, Nicholas Rego, and Noah Smith all had one assist.

Gateway got on the board in game two, trailing just 3-2 after one, but the Vineyarders pulled away for a 7-2 win. Nicholas Rego lit the lamp 50 seconds into the contest. Noah Smith followed up two minutes later, scoring on a nifty wrister from 20 feet out after a full-length rush down the right side. Jacob Sylvia made it 3-1, sliding the puck and himself into the cage. Dylan Biggs earned the assist. Cam Geary put M.V. up, 4-2, one minute into the second stanza, with assists to Will Bruguiere and Nicholas Rego. Noah Smith scored his second of the game, whistling in a shot from between the circles, assisted by Jacob Sylvia, for a 5-2 Vineyard lead after two.

Cam Geary put the finishing touch on the win 80 seconds from the final horn by firing the puck top shelf after rushing down the right hand boards.

Bantams fall in Foxboro

The Vineyard Bantams played at top-seeded Foxboro Gold last weekend. Wilson Slayton, Hunter Ponte, and Jack Murray created multiple opportunities but failed to find the back of the net as the Vineyard came out on the short end of a 2-0 score.
