Welcome to Agrabah, the City of Enchantment. This Friday and Saturday evening the Tisbury School gym will magically change when the 7th and 8th graders bring Disney’s Aladdin Jr. to life with music and action. Tickets at the door are $7, $20 for family of four or more. Curtain time is 7 pm. For more, call Denise, 508-696-6530.

Tomorrow the volunteers for the Family-to-Family holiday meals will prepare the bags and boxes of food for Thanksgiving dinner for those in need. The food comes from Reliable Market. The bills don’t come due until January so the Vineyard Committee on Hunger asks you to send a check now for $25 to pay for one family dinner. Write F2F on the memo line and mail it to VCOH, P.O. Box 4685 Vineyard Haven 02568. Last year you fed nearly 200 families. The VCOH will also prepare the makings for a holiday dinner in December. Thanks to the generosity of the Pacheco family at Reliable, the costs have stayed pretty close to $25 for each complete dinner.

The Louisa Gould Gallery now has an exhibit with wonderful Island scenes by local artists, showing through December. They are also preparing for the Small Wonders Holiday Show which opens this Saturday. Over 20 artists will have new affordable art on display. It begins this weekend and you can meet the artists at a holiday reception from 5 to 7 pm on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend.

Featherstone’s Holiday Gift Show opens Saturday, daily from noon to 4 until a week before Christmas. There are dozens of Vineyard artists offering affordable art from $5 to $250. You’ll find special cards and calendars, gift boxes and jewelry, purses, scarves, and quilts. All sales benefit Vineyard artists and Featherstone, our year-round art center.

It’s not too late to sign up for Featherstone classes, different ones each day of the week. Try Wheel Throwing with Frank Creney or Beginning Drawing with Nancy Blank. Try Printmaking or Tapestry or Watercolor or Acrylic Painting. Did you know? Karen Huff offers a class in No Fear Beginner’s iPad and Lani Carney has Saturday Art Adventures for children ages 3 to 8.

Grace Church will not hold its usual Christmas bazaar this year because of construction on the parish hall. But the public is invited to browse and buy at an informal Christmas Trinkets and Treasures sale this Sunday after church at 11:45 am. All funds raised will go to a fund to help the people in the Phillipines after the devastating typhoon.

Check out your books for Thanksgiving reading at our Vineyard Haven Library before 1 pm on Wednesday. The library will reopen Saturday. Remember you can make an appointment for help with e-books on Saturday mornings.

Don’t miss Tea and Books at 4 pm on Monday at the Federated Church. All are welcome.

Some family events are so traumatic that they are comical. See how funny it can be on the Friday after Thanksgiving when Home for the Holidays will be shown at the new Film Center. The film is based on a short story written by Chris Radant, a Vineyard author who will introduce the film at 7:30 pm.

Mark your calendar so you can enjoy the annual Thanksgiving Concert of the Chamber Music Society on Saturday evening, November 30, at 7:30 to hear an extraordinary program of wonderful music performed at the Old Whaling Church. $20 tickets are available only at the door 30 minutes before the show.

Big bunches of birthday balloon wishes go out today to Tracy Matthiessen, MJ Munafo, and Marion Burke. Wish the best tomorrow to Dan Cabot and Alexander Ray. Special wishes for a very happy birthday on Tuesday to Chris Chandler, with many good wishes for a rapid recovery as well.
