Christopher Edward Hall died suddenly at his home in Everett, Washington, on November 21, 2013. He was 54 years old.
The son of Joan Finnegan Hall and William Hall of William Street in Vineyard Haven, Chris was a frequent Island visitor and resident.
A graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Kingston, Chris attended the University of San Francisco and graduated from Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1988. He worked as an engineering officer on merchant ships in the Pacific until joining his father as partner and West Coast representative in Hall Associates, a marine brokerage firm. After two years on the Island caring for his father post-stroke, Chris returned to Washington where he worked as an agent at Healthcare Solutions Insurance.
Chris loved to learn and his Jeopardy acumen was surpassed by very few. A dedicated student of history, he especially loved American History and the Civil War.
Chris loved reggae music and traveled extensively all over the world. Chris was an avid golfer and fan of Mink Meadows and Farm Neck. Chris played golf until the end of his life, with a hole in one this past summer. He was a member of Semiahmoo and Loomis Trails Golf Club in Seattle, but his absolute favorite place to play was Brandon Dunes, in Brandon, Oregon. On and off the golf course Chris was a treasured friend to many. He will truly be missed, not only as a golf partner but more importantly as a son, brother, uncle, and true friend.
Chris is survived by his father, William Hall of Vineyard Haven, his sister Polly Simpkins, also of Vineyard Haven, sisters Sally Hall Hatcher of Chicago, Martha Hall Kelly of Atlanta, two brothers in law and six nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
A memorial service will be held in the spring, as well as the Chris Hall Memorial Golf Tournament, the dates of which will be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The First Tee at www.thefirsttee.org.
