A friend just returned from her Thanksgiving weekend. I asked if she had a good holiday. Her reply was that the best she could say was that the plane was on time both ways.
There is more going on in town every day. All day tomorrow, December 6, you are invited to try a tasting of pies at Not Your Sugar Mamas at the Tisbury Market Place. Drop in anytime from 7 to 5:30.
Santa will be at the Tisbury Fire Station at 1 pm on Sunday. Kids, get your list up to date.
If you need a really fancy wreath for your door, this evening is the Festival of Wreaths at the Federated Church in Edgartown from 5 to 7:30.
Also today the Vineyard Haven Library offers gaming for Teens from 3 to 5 pm. There is a box at the library for your donation of new books for children for Red Stocking. That’s a great idea and I guess you could add any new toys there. I know there is a general box at the YMCA but not where other boxes have been placed.
This weekend is a good time to shop on Island. Also Saturday is the Christmas Faire at the West Tisbury Church, opening at 9:30 am. They offer wreaths and greens, vintage jewelry and recycled gifts, cookies and pies. Lunch features lobster bisque or chicken soup from 11:30 to 1:30 with warm gingerbread and whipped cream for dessert.
From there you could check out the open house at Island Alpaca from 10 am to 4 pm. You know that you can register your child for an hour and a half of fun time learning about alpacas? Check out their website.
This weekend you can enjoy a musical concert with your neighbors and friends in the Community Chorus. They perform at the Whaling Church on Saturday at 7:30 pm and again on Sunday at 3 pm. Mark your calendar now for the Minnesingers Christmas Concert next weekend.
There is no Holly Day at Grace Church this year due to construction. However, a smaller sale, “Christmas Trinkets, Treasures and Treats,” is offered Sunday from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm. This benefits typhoon relief in the Philippines. Enter through the church.
Also on Sunday afternoon you can visit the Fiber Folks Handcrafts at the Ag Hall from 1 to 4 pm for unusual gifts and, while you are there, you could learn how to crochet a star.
Does your family have a special creche? If you’d like to add yours to the creche display in the Whaling Church next weekend, call the Methodist Church office at 508-693-4424 or email umcmvoffice@comcast.net for more information.
There is a special town meeting next Tuesday evening at 7 pm at the Tisbury School gym. Be there. Some want to change the town meeting vote that said no to the access road from the Edgartown Road to State Road. We hope for a short meeting.
Did you know that you can give a small amount of extra cash to the Tisbury School at no cost to you? Go to www.stopandshop.com/aplus. Then click on the aplus program to identify the school and enter your Stop & Shop card number. Based on each time you spend money with that card, the school will be credited with some cash. Your receipt will list the total that is credited to the school the same way your gas points are credited. This is good until mid March. You do have to register your participation in the aplus program to benefit your school every year.
Big bunches of birthday balloon wishes go out to Jessie Chandler on Saturday. Wish the best to Polly Renear and Rachael Houston on Monday. Tuesday belongs to Doug Cabral.
Heard on Main Street: Santa comes by ferry because it is deer week on the Island.
