Make merry at Oak Bluffs holiday events on Saturday

Christmas in Edgartown is fast approaching, but Saturday, December 7, is all about Oak Bluffs. From 9 am to 5 pm, downtown O.B. will be bustling with family friendly holiday events.

Festivities kick off at 9 am with a Holiday Bazaar from the Oak Bluffs Council on Aging at the Senior Center on Wamsutta Avenue. The fourth annual fair will include special holiday gifts, decorations, and food for sale. The bazaar will be open until 2 pm, and attendance is free.

At 10 am, the traditional Oak Bluffs Open Market will open up indoors at Dreamland and continue until 3 pm. There will be more vendors, plus live music on stage, and a visit from Santa Claus himself.

Step outside to Circuit Ave. at 2 pm to witness a “spectacular and spontaneous parade” from the Spindrift Puppet troupe, who will welcome spectators to join in the march up the main drag.

From the end of the parade, it’s only a short walk over to Kennebec Ave. where Offshore Ale Co. will host a family holiday party. “Kids and adults alike can enjoy live music, caroling, cookie decorating, and ornament making.”

At the centerpiece of this eventful day, a unique mural, created by the Oak Bluffs School students under the direction of art teacher Kim O’Conner, will be on display in the window of the Corner Store on Circuit Ave. This artful addition to downtown Oak Bluffs will remain in place throughout the holiday season.

These events, organized by the Oak Bluffs Association, draw to a close at 5 pm, but families can stick around for dinner at one of several restaurants, holiday shopping at a favorite store, or a stroll under the newly lit holiday lights.
