John Hoyt Hathaway of Edgartown died peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford on December 14. He was 67.
Born to the late Lewis W. Hathaway Sr. and the late Anna P. Burgess Hathaway on August 27,1946, John grew up in Ocean Heights in Edgartown.
In high school he was on the track team and played the clarinet in a band every Sunday at the gazebo in Oak Bluffs.
John graduated MVRHS and then attended Cape Cod Community College before returning home to work in the family shellfish business. He also worked as a carpenter for many years.
He met and married Patricia A. Lawrence of Oak Bluffs. They were married for 26 years and had two children.
John was predeceased by his brother Lewis W. Hathaway of Edgartown.
He is survived by his daughter Lisa LaManque, her husband, Aaron, and two grandchildren, Lillian and Mark Moscato of Long Island, his son Eric Hathaway, his wife, Kimberly, and two grandchildren, Kylie and Jenna Hathaway of Edgartown, his brothers Peter Hathaway of Edgartown and Gary Hathaway of Maine, dear friend Jane Davis of Fairhaven, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held in the spring. More information will be available at a later date.
