The Friends of the Vineyard Haven Public Library are refreshing the Art in the Stacks exhibit this month with the life drawings of Deirdre DeCarion. The Art in the Stacks initiative provides artists an opportunity to show their work, and library patrons a free, year-round gallery. Ms. DeCarion’s work will be on display during regular library hours through the month of December.

Ms. DeCarion said in an artist’s statement that the past 20 years of her art career has been spent working with wood, from handcrafting walking staffs to building half-hull models of sailboats at the Wooden Boat School in Maine.

After attending a life drawing class at Featherstone Center for the Arts in Oak Bluffs, Ms. DeCarion developed a new passion. “The contours, the planes, the textures and the uniqueness of the human body challenge my creativity in terms of its representation,” she said. “Some inspire the power of color while others inspire the gentleness of a simple line. There are no boundaries.”
