The U.S. Post Office has long enough lines to consider getting there early. They will be open Saturday and Sunday this weekend. That’s for us slow folks.

The Christmas Tea and Sale is on Saturday from 2 to 4 pm at the parish hall of the First Baptist Church. Tea, coffee, tea sandwiches, and cookies are offered. There are gifts and baked goods at reasonable prices. Tea tickets at the door $7 or children at $4 or in advance at 508-693-1539.

Join the Martha’s Vineyard Museum and the committee to Save the Gay Head Lighthouse for music, food, drinks, and fun. A Winter Solstice celebration is on Saturday from 3 to 5 pm at the Gay Head Lighthouse. The event is free and open to all.

Shop Main Street for all your holiday needs. Some lovely items are already on sale and you can see what you want to ask Santa to look for.

There was a good turnout of voters for the town meeting last week, even in the ice and snow. The best part of the meeting was the standing ovation for 20 years of excellent service from our Public Works Director Fred LaPiana. Fred has brought the sewer to our town along with many other improvements. He will be a tough act to follow.

There were some other good moves made by the voters. The Tisbury School roof will be repaired. It sure was creaking ominously during the meeting. And the selectmen in their wisdom withdrew a couple of issues that promised long and painful discussions.

Interesting handicrafts are at Peacecraft with holiday goods to benefit people in other countries, such as Haiti. The holiday shop is behind the Beach House on 30 Main Street. Volunteers will serve you through Christmas Eve, daily from 11 am to 5 pm..

came back to find the Tisbury Inn in flames. Charles Farley returned to the Island a week ago to return his room key and share his story of that misadventure.

Want some tasty stocking stuffers? Have you been to the Winter Farmer’s Market at the Ag Hall? This Saturday, 10 am–1 pm, you can find delicious homemade treats. Last time I got some wonderful bread and butter pickles, jams, and chutneys

There will be no program at the Vineyard Haven Library on Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve. The library will close at 1 pm those Tuesdays and reopen two days later.

Marsha Winsryg is selling African handmade crafts to support disabled and orphaned Zambian children. Barbara Courtney has donated the space at 61 Main Street in Edgartown.

Congratulations go out Sunday to Fred and Jill LaPiana on their 35th wedding anniversary.
