Martha’s Vineyard girls skate to win in season opener

The Vineyard varsity girls hockey team started off the new season with a 5-1 Southeastern Mass Girls Hockey League win over Bourne/Mashpee/Wareham (BMW) on December 18 at the Falmouth Arena.

Aubrey Ashmun lit the lamp twice, while Callie Jackson chalked up a goal and two assists. Sydney Davies and Emily Hammett each had a goal and an assist. Kiara Vought and Julia Levesque earned an assist apiece.

Sophomore Jackie Hegarty had an impressive debut tending the twine, stopping 11 of 12 shots. The Vineyarders outshot BMW 24-12.

The girls are back in action December 27 in Marshfield.
